Ultrasonic Humidifier for Vivarium Setup, how to set one up?????

viper69 Sep 11, 2004 03:29 PM

I have seen and heard of people using ultrasonic humidifiers as a means of maintaing humidity for their animals. Yet I have never seen any good instructions on how to do this, and I have heard that only some models work best, even w/in the same manufacturer too. Probably due to size issues for the needed PVC pipes is my guess.

With that said..anyone know of where I can get good detailed plans on how to do this???

i just did this last night actually and it works great so far. it has kept the humidity between 75% and 85% for my red eyed tree frog. these things put out a lot of humidity even on a low setting. i bought a RELI-ON ultrasonic humidifier from walmart for 35$(on the low setting it used a little over a gallon in 24 hours.) and got some 1/2" vinyl tubing from home depot for about 5$ i think thats about as small as you wanna go so it wont back up the humidier.i hot glued the tube into the mist vent.( in the pic it shows the tube going into the top of a cut-off 20oz water bottle this works too) also, i had a problem with the condensation inside the tube pooling when u had a loop in it. u have to make sure there is no low spots in the tube where the moisture cant drain back into the humidifier or into the terrarium.it all works great so far, the design in the pic is just a rough design. now that i know it works well im gonna make it look better. its DEFINATLEY better than buying those small round ultrasonic misters they sell for like 40$ and only last a few weeks. on the one i had the plating on the whatchamacallit wore off in like 2 weeks and it stopped working. good luck
