Looking into an Irian Jaya, some advice...

matthew Sep 11, 2004 07:13 PM

hey,
i am probably going to be getting an Irian Jaya sometime in the next month. i was wondering if you guys can give me some info on how they like the temps, humidity etc. i know how to keep a snake, but i wanted to get the specific needs down. the one i am looking at is VERY high contrast. he is absolutely beautiful, eats GREAT, and has never struck at me once. i work at a pet shop in Memphis. i am much more of a tegu/monitor guy. my parents are fine with them but snakes they dont like. though i think they are finally going to let me bring home a snake. at first i was going to make the cage 2˝'x2˝'x4' (LxWxH). this snake is just really awesome. can you guys post pics of your cages? would help a lot. thanks. the pic is my male albino burm i keep at the store, future breeder
nothing special but hes an awesome snake.

We house hatchlings in small shoebox size tubs and gradually move them up to larger tubs as they grow. All of our IJCP are under five feet and take up very little space in a rack system that holds long tubs...

We keep our room heated to 80F and give them a hot spot in the low 90's provided by 3 inch flexwatt at the back of the each shelf. They do very well at this temperature but can be kept a little cooler.

That's a beautiful Burm. I used to have one that looked identical to that one. How old/long is he and how much does he eat/weigh? And what size enclosure? Thanks.

I keep my IJ's at about 85 on the hot side. I dont usually worry to much about the humidity...they have a pretty big water bowl which helps keep it up and i mist daily when they are in shed.
How big is the one you are thinking of getting
