if you have never kept frogs before i would recommend to not get the red eyes, start with whites or gree tree frogs, then gain experience and then get some red eyes down the road. good luck
i totally agree with amphibiam freak dont make a red eye your first frog. they are not very hardy. start w/ a whites or a fire belly toad
Well i really have no interest in any other frog...if they are really that difficult i would just not get any frog at all. I have alot of snakes and dont really want a bunch of different frogs around the house. I am more of a snake guy but really like the red eyes..i have 3 tattooed on my arm. What makes them so difficult besides not being hardy
I suppose i could sell the other frogs when i am done with them...are they easy to sell?
Thanks Jason
red eyes stress very easily, the also need their temps and humidity to be perfect... even a small shift in temp or humidity for a small amount of time can prove fatal. if you don't want to take the time to gain experience by caring for a better starter frog than yes, don't get any frog at all.
if i wasnt willing to gain expereience i would have asked here...
What do you consider experience??
you could start out by getting a whites or green tree frog, learn the specific needs, behavior, some do's and don'ts that you may come across on your own. lets put it in your perspective, i don't know what snakes you keep, nor do i have nearly as much knowledge of them as you probably do, but would you want someone to try and take care of say a burm python with out working their way up, by first taking care of a ball or other kind of snake first? now it has been done, taking care of red eyes as first frogs, but be prepared to do lots of reading and spending a good amount of money and time making sure their tank is perfect. also be sure get some captive bred ones too.
got any recomendations on good books that have information on temps and tank setup for frogs???
check devin edmonds site at www.amphibiancare.com...........best of luck
