food, how much and how often?

abbyn Jun 26, 2003 12:22 AM

well, my newt (chinese fire belly) is finally eating. he hated the dried bloodworms they told me to feed him at the pet store, so i've been digging up small worms in the backyard for him. the past couple days i've given him about 1 1/2 inches of worm a day. is this enough, too much, or not enough? i read to feed them every other day, is that correct?

one more question, next month i'm going on vaction for a little less than a week, can a newt go that long without food? or should i find someone to come feed it? thanks!

Hello,
For all you want you can go for more than a week. Your newt will do fine, newts are born to fast from taking food. Some newts will actually take periods where they will decide they don't want food. You should feed your newt around evry 3-4 days. And pretty much feed as much as your newt will take. Earthworms are a good food, another you'd maybe like to try, because of convenience are frozen bloodworms... Newts love them!!!
