Getting the smell out!

PreacherPat Sep 12, 2004 12:29 AM

Well, I did something really dumb that I should have known better than to do. I fed one of my Albino Nor. Pines a mouse last night that was too big. I left the snake with half the mouse down and went on to other things. Sat. is always a very busy day in a preacher's life, so if the snakes are going to be neglected it will be on Sat!!!! I didn't discover that the Pine had regurged until late this evening. Man, there is no smell worse than a regurged animal. At least a mammel isn't as bad as an amphibian, fish or another snake! But now I'm left with the smell in the rubbermaid cage. Does anything kill that smell??? I'm not too keen on using enough bleach to do it. Any suggestions would be most appreciated! Thanks!

Hey Pat, I use dishwashing soap and hot water first. Soak it for a few minutes, rinse and wash hard again. Then I hit it with Chlorhexidine which kills the cooties for sure. That usually does the trick. I soak it in the soapy water as long as I can but even a few minutes in extremely soapy water should help a lot. My Southern Pines started hatching today, no albinos yet. If you don't have any Chlorhexidine Bean Farm carries it. I could give you some if you're in my neck of the woods. ttyl Tom
