My dad just brought home some lilly pads from a pond. Can I put these in my turtles tank?
Thanks,
Marisa

Does he have the whole plant? Lily pads are rooted in the mud in the bottom of the pond, and are quite hard to unearth without digging around quite a bit. The root is usually quite long and would require a pot of mud to be put in the tank as well. Your turtle will most likely dig it up. If you put some large rocks on top of the mud it will help, but expect quite a bit of mud to escape into your water. If you have just the leaves, they will float on the water until they decompose and rotting plant material will be in your tank. I wouldnt recommend lily pads unless you have quite a large tank with at least 5 or 6 inches of substrate.

He just brought home the leaves. Is it safe for my turtles to eat it?
