hey guys i was just wondering i have a normal ball python/male.. and i was thinking of getting into breeding, because i dont really have enough money to purchase a morph flat out.. i want an albino or a super pastel for my collection.. what do you guys think is the better deal?? purchasing 2 100% heterozygous (albino)snakes or one pastel and breeding them?/ i know that the pastels are codominate so i will "shoulD" recieve 2 pastels on the first breed.. also what do you guys think will hold the most value in the next couple of years.. i am doing this more to have something and produce something special in the long run..

If you are thinking about breeding for morphs primarily because you want one and not for the money. Then your best bet would be to breed the morph you like the most. It will keep your interest for much longer.

Since you already have a male I assume you were looking to buy a female pastel in which case you can expect to wait up to three years for her to reach breeding size. Same with the 100% Het. Albinos - you'll have to wait until your female is of breeding size.

Either way you go you have a chance at producing a morph with the first clutch (not the Super you are looking for, but if you pop out a male it's only a year away after that). I'm not going to tell you which one you should buy, only to buy the one that interests you the most...you'll be glad you did.

wow thats alot of good info thanks guys.. hmm so if i were to get into it economically i would probably rather get into pastels.. that way i can purchase two or three normal females..and have one male pastel breed them both?? that would give me more snakes and better odds..(two sets of hets to produce a super).. (am i correct??)maybe i could even be able get get a couple bucks from my extras snakes.. ok so if i were getting into money side of things.. wat will hold its value most.. i would think three years down the line the price would have to drop somewhat..

also theoretically speaking wouldnt a pastels market decrease dramatically because it is such an easy morph to obtain.. being a coodominate morph.. anyone who would want to get into the breeding industry.. can start off with these guys and do pretty well at least having almost a 50 percent chance of doubling their inventment in the first attempt..

as of right now i myself find the albino to interest me more (harder to do).. but.. i just want to see what everyone feels about my opinion.. but might find myself going the pastel route.. because if all works out "perfectly".. i may even be able to purchase albino out right after the first breed or two..plus the odds of having an albino is 25% i might have to go into to or even three breeding sessions before i get an albino or even anything that captures people attention (having a bunch of hets wouldnt really satisfy me becuase they are basically normals) or at least look like em....

Find new home for the normal male or don't breed him.
I am sure he is a great pet but when it comes to breeding ball pythons, you can get poss hets for around the same price of normals and give you a head start in the ball python morph world.
It would be a better combo of you had normal females and say a pastel male or albino male.
If you arre going to spend that kind of money(pastel females -$1700, albino female $2,300) you should get a male morph.
You can only breed a female once, but a male will breed multiple females.
Get the most out of yur money and get a male morph that can breed a lot and produce more offspring for you.
Good luck,
Evan
