Where did you see the Prairie rattlesnake (viridis viridis)? Was it in Arizona? I figured it was in New Mexico, but I had to ask. They're just not too commonly found here in Arizona, so it would be noteworthy.

Hi Mike,
It was in New Mexico east of the Peloncillos.

Love those molossus. And that atrox, interesting color, almost looked pinkish in the pic. Cool finds!

The atrox was not only pinkish tan, it was faded to nearly patternless in the back
1/3 of the body. It was also 1 of 2 we found from the same area that looked like that. Indeed a cool animal. The blacktail was a just birthed female.

Where was the atrox found? The fading may suggest intergrading. I know mojaves fade significantly towards the tail and have been known to intergrade with atrox. Or, maybe speckled? They have coloration like that, Ive never seen that color in an atrox before. Maybe just a remarkable atrox, who knows.

It was a highway find in the New Mex. boot heel. We found this one 2 years ago not far from where this one was.

Im not sure where the boot heel is, Im assuming the sw corner. There are mojaves there along with rock and westerns, but that pic you just posted looks pure atrox to me, I think it just may be a very cool locality. Great find IMO!
that region is well know for it's faded, salmon colored atrox. Some individuals are truly incredible looking snakes.

We also found a nearly solid black mojave from the same area. Truely there are some wonderful animals there.

now that I would really enjoy seeing! I have seen some very dark ones in that area but not that dark. Those I have seen almost appear to be a whole different morph, different kind of pattern and such, not just a darker version of the typical scuts. Thanks for sharing the pics, glad you had a good trip!
