Female Saharan (long post)

triad Sep 12, 2004 01:47 PM

I finally got my replacement female saharan yesterday around 6:45 am. She was supposed to come on Friday at 2 pm on the express truck, I got a call from the Post office and they said she was registered as being on that truck, but she wasn't on it. So I was really glad when my mom came in and woke me up saying she was at the post office and they heard her moving around.

I got her home and soaked her (she was in transport for 4 days). Surprisingly her eyes were open when I picked her up. She started walking around my hand and licking my palm. I soaked her and she was making splashes with her tail, seems like she was enjoying it.

I put her in the terrarium with Orion (the male from the previous set of 2, unfortanetly the female survived a month then died ).
They are doing terrific today. I'm hoping that she lives a full life with Orion, her name is Iris. She's very pretty, orange all over with some grey.

Here is a pic of her, she's a lot more orange in reality then the picture shows.

I'm so glad she made it ok!! Sounds like she's doing very well for such a long transport. She's very pretty - even in the picture! Orion should be a happy fella.

she is a cutie! i am glad that they heard her scratching around and she is ok. it must have sucked being stuck in a box that long, i would have been trying to get out too. although she is ok, i would still write/talk to the post office about keeping better track of live cargo. if she had been quiet, it could have been disastrous!

See it was scheduled for 2nd day delivery, so I should have had it on Thursday since she was shipped Wednesday early in the morning.

Post Office did the same thing with the first two, it took 3 days instead of 2 to get those guys and thats part of the reason why the female got sick, overstressed from the trip.

My mom said I should at least call and talk to Doug Dix and have him talk to his Post Office about it and see if they can refund his money and if they can see if he can give me back the $35 for shipping on her since it took 2 times as long to get her as it should have.

Thanks for the support. I'm hoping to successfully breed Orion and Iris this spring, I'd love to have baby Saharan's crawling around the house. Then I'd have a free birthday and anniversary presents for my Brothers and parents.

It's just my opinion, but I wouldn't put her in right away with another uro until after she acclimates. Especially after a four day journey...seems kind of long. The acclimation is stressfull enough, let alone throw her right in with a strange roomie. It may seem they're doing ok, but youy never know. Did the previous female seem to be doing ok before passing?

None the less, nice looking uro...kind of looks like one of Doug Dix's poses.

Yeah its the pic of her Doug sent me before shipping her out.

The other female seemed to be doing fine the first 24 hrs but then she started making a popping noise.

But he said it would be ok and she is doing very fine with her roomie and the fact is he's been a lot more active now that she's there with him, before after the first died he was a little depressed and stopped playing and stuff but now he's fine and he's playful and he's in "uro" love with his gf.
