Need info about feeding a Brown Snake.

ChrisT Sep 12, 2004 02:03 PM

Hello all,

A couple of months ago, I caught a nice-sized (approximately 1 1/2 feet long) Storeria Dekayi in my front yard, and I need some help with food for it. I read that they eat Earthworms, Slugs, and Snails, but it's been too dry here lately for me to find any. Will they eat any other food, such as Mealworms or Crickets? Also, how should I go about feedings when the snake's about to shed? I look forward to hearing from everyone on this, and wish you all well.

Brown snakes will eat worms, slugs and snails. I have recently tried to get some LTC to eat salamanders and fish, but that failed. I have heard that they will eat small frogs and tadpoles, but I have never tried it or seen it.
When the snake is about to shed, just quit feeding it until it does shed.
