Yertyl the Apalachicola King (new pic)

Sasheena Sep 12, 2004 03:58 PM

I've posted pictures of Yertyl before, I went and took a picture of her today, I'll post the other pictures too, but here's Yertyl, pic taken in my backyard today.

She's about 13 months old. No longer bites the instant you open the cage. But is still quite the most ferocious snake, just like her momma.

This picture was taken about a week before Pandora laid her eggs last year. I wasn't even sure she was gravid, as she was only introduced to the male once, the second time he regurged in her face, so he was pulled. This year she and the male bred four times, and she laid NO eggs, never showed signs of being gravid. When she was showing signs of developing follicles, I went to get the male to breed them again, only to find him dead. So no Apalachicola babies this year. still have to find a mate for her and for little Yertyl when she'll be ready to be bred.

Shasheena, that snake is a true beauty. Although some might question it's purity because of the scale coloring, not considering the extreme variability of these kings. I would call it a perfect example of a beautiful apachicola kingsnake.

Much like this little beauty that hatched last night. I can't wait to see it after the shed.

Keep up the good work.

Several of the individuals in this forum have seen these pictures and others of her and agree that she is pure apalachicola, she has the stright line demarkation of black tips on light colored scales, and oval lightening on all dark colored scales. I have been told, several times, her ultimate history, but I have a terrible memory, I know that the person who sold her to me reads this forum, so perhaps she'll refresh my memory as to her history.

Your babies are beautiful. I was very sad not to get hatchlings from her this year. Especially as it was partly due to the loss of my very favorite snake.

The picture below was taken just a few moments ago. I have her in our "display" tank in the living room of our house. She's draped all over her "tree" and looking VERY fat. (I just fed her a med-small rat) It's pretty cool, because she hasn't moved since I snapped this picture, so she still looks exactly like this picture. It's through the glass, so it's not the best picture, but I thought it might be an interesting pic. I got her in Spring of '02, she's an '01 hatchling. All those mice and rats I fed her this year to prep her for breeding just turned into length, girth, and MUSCLE.
