hybino hondurans?

rtdunham Sep 12, 2004 04:53 PM

here are three pix showing current speculation.

The first is of a 2002 hatch male that was too small to test-breed this year. I speculate he's a hybino because of the pale orange coloring.

The second is of the 2002 male with a nice tangerine albino i once thought might be a hybino. Test breeding proved he--the snake on the right--is HET for hypo but is not homozygous hypo. It shows how diff two tangerine albinos can be. I'll test breed the pale male next year.

The third pic is of a 2004 hatch baby i'm keeping in the belief it might be a hybino. It's much paler than other tangerine albinos i've hatched (for comparison, see the pic a couple of threads down--"a couple baby hondo pix"--though the tangerine albino in that post is brighter than some others.

Hi Terry,
I cant wait to see soem for sure hybinos produced in the next few years. It will be fun to see what the forsure deal looks like, compared to what everyone has speculated them to look like. Thanks for the pics terry,

nice pictures...
Is the hondo in the middle pic, right side, from the hybino project? It seems to have a lot more red than your other tangerine albinos.

rtdunham Sep 14, 2004 06:31 AM

yes it is, paul. the tangerines range from orange to red. that was an especially red one.

will be a dissapointment but will be a valuable snake.I always thought that the hybino would be pale since thats how it works with sonoran gophers and bullsnakes.

Anyways,I would bet the farm that the pale male you posted will prove out a hybino next year?

not to be defensive, but diff people like diff things, and i think some would prefer the pale one. the adult or the baby...especially once "redder" tangerine albinos are as common as tricolor albinos are today. Not everyone, but some. After all, it could be argued a clean bright red/black/yellow wildtype tricolor hondo is "prettier" than many of the morphs. Sometimes the subtlety attracts people, too.

I hope you're right on that one, and suspect you are.

Terry and others. Today was day 65 for 2 eggs that were triple het x tricolor hypo pos het anery. From the 2 eggs both were tricolor hypos but the image below is of the lightest one fresh out. What is different to me is it has the red eyes and the other does not. We had a tricolor hypo in first clutch and normal eyes as well. I will get some better shots in daylight to show. Just wondering what your thoughts are with hypos with red eyes and ones without.
Such fun and still learning.
Regards,
Adam

My extreme hypo from Michael also has red eye.

i've not paid a lot of attention to eye color, maybe because i've not seen any differences that could be associated with anything that wasn't observable by just looking at the snake generally. That's not to say there's NOT a diff of significance...just that i haven't been able to see a correlation.

Just hatch 4 beautiful tangerine albino babies. The father is an albino het hypo (from Terry), the mother is a tangerine albino possible het hypo (from Guy (tangerine albino X DH Hybino )).
So far I know they are tangerine albino, but I don't know they are het hypo or hybino. I will tell you what they are two years later.
Hope you like the pictures.
