Yellow Belly???

Jason Kuta Sep 12, 2004 06:10 PM

I haven’t seen enough yellow bellies to tell for sure. I'd appreciate a professional opinion.

Seems like just a normal female to me but I figured it wouldn’t hurt to inquire.

I appreciate your input.

Best Regards,

but it looks pretty big and should give you some nice babies this year that if you have some mojaves, platys, or pinstripes will make you much more than that. So no big deal its not a yellowbellie right : ) but I dont know i that well either and hopefull I am wrong somehow..but it looks nothing like a yellow belly to me.

Just from the pics of yellow bellies I've seen it doesn't look like your girl has the black moved out far enough on the belly. She only has the middle scale white and the yb's I've seen pics of have all three belly scales across white with lots of small black checks lined up at the edge.

Do breed her though and let us know if some of her babies get a belly similar to her. You never know, it could be a new co-dominant. Here is a little ch girl I picked up this year similar to yours with the thin black lines just outside the center belly scale.

I do see the similarity between those two with the widening and center fading of the side pattern near the belly that the first ASF pic doesn't have.

However, I could also see a normal having pretty much the same dorsal pattern. Maybe it's all in the belly and even if there is a unique dorsal pattern that all yb's have it seems to me the belly is the more striking part, so let's see some bellies! Do all three snakes have the 3 scale wide white/yellow mottled belly with the small checks massed together at the edges?

What do you think?

I'm no pro but it seems to me a belly pic would be needed to even make a good guess.

What do you think of this one Jon? Randy?

Looks interesting but then I'm no expert and that's not the best pic. Maybe send a better one to Jarred or someone else who actually works with proven yb's. I guess the big test will be to raise it up and breed it and it's children.

How about a good pic lol. Its hard to tell with that belly shot. It might be. Try to get me a better belly shot.
