repost of my new terrarium i built

quanno Jun 26, 2003 01:48 AM

i posted this once before but i was looking for some feedback as to what i can improve. the back and sides are melamine, front is plate glass, bottom is tempered. it is 5 feet long, 3 feet high, 1.5 feet deep. 90 degree wood trim was used all around on the corners, stained, etc. I have 2 females and one male in there currently (originally intended for the 2 females). the light is mounted just inside the top of the terrarium supported by 3 aluminum rods with lips cut out on each end to keep it securely on top. I will soon create some sort of suspended bride from one side of the tank to the other for more fun space and so they can get closer to the UV. enjoy!

finished product on kitchen floor

day shot

night shot, bad but you can see size compared to 20 long

and here are the 2 girls (Suna -on top- and Hera) hangin out

Looks like a very nice cage.

You could run a ramp along the back and one side wall to bring a basking spot closer to the UVB bulb. Those hammack things one of the regular posters here sells could be used in a corner as well. Can't remember the person who sells them but they are a specially made for bearded dragons thing that is solid instead of a mesh material. Or you could always make one out of those vinyl canvas flag material.

she sells them, they are great! i have 2...they soak up heat and everything! well, i dont think that your drags are getting max UVB exposure, as it looks like the only place they can "get up" on the stick is farther than 12 inches from the UVB light. Try moving it closer to the basking area, and as LdyPayne said, a hammock would work!

I've heard nothing but good stuff about these hammocks. I'd also suggest building a ledge on the back so they can get closer to UVB bulb.

Nice tank! Lots of room. Good job!

thanks for the compliments guys, it makes all the hard work even more worth it. I will be building a bridge that goes across the length of the tank to the two high areas on each end of the tank. it will be probably made of bark and log, suspended with high grade fish line so its thicker and less likely to cut. I dont think it would shift too much, and i'll cross the supports and probably fix the pieces together with screws before i hang it. i agree they're not close enough to the UV YET! hehe yet! I love the tank, and so do the babies. pics of my new baby are soon to come. i got her from a guy at a pet store who was getting rid of it because it got attacked by his cat and had a broken hand. she was just plain, then she shed last week. shes as yellow as a banana, so beautiful!
