Here's the new tank at last...

sunfox Sep 12, 2004 07:05 PM

well, it's not set up quite yet. I'm waiting for Isis to get her stitches out first before I put her on soil substrate. I bought this at the Reptile Expo today, it's a 125-gallon tank that is wide and short. I've got it sitting next to Ra's existing 40-gallon tank to show the comparison. They'll both be happy in their new home once I'm done setting it up.

It's quite large and should suit them both for the rest of their lives.

Wow!! That's impressive! They'll be happy happy uros once they're moved in. What are you planning for Ra's old place? Keeping it for an emergency tank or are you getting something new to go in it?

I'd like to eventually use it to house a harem of high-end morph female leopard geckos. I have two 10-gallon tanks I can use to house a high-end morph male each. The 40-gallon Rubbermaid tub that Isis is currently living in will be the emergency tank since it is easy to clean and the sides are opaque for added privacy.

That is one huge tank. I think if I were an adult uro, I'd be real happy in that tank.

that's an odd size....looks like a pretty good size for reptiles (especially lizards) though. So what are your plans for this tank as far as substrate and stuff? Is it going to be tall enough to do the burrow idea you had before? What are the measurements of this tank?

sunfox Sep 14, 2004 08:31 PM

It won't be as deep as I had originally planned but I should still be able to bury boxes and pipes for dens and burrows. I plan to use a mix of organic soil and playsand. This combination seems to work well because the soil holds the sand together well to make a good walking and running surface but still very diggable. I will make sure they have a lot of stuff to climb as well.
I am also designing my own background for it, it is egyptian-themed.
I believe the tank is 4'x2'x2' but I'll have to measure it again to be sure.

"Tanks" for asking
