Head Bobbing?

c&f Sep 12, 2004 07:52 PM

Hi,

Has anyone every seen a Black Mountain Tortoise head bob before?

Emmy is about 3 years old and she broke out of her room the other day. She wandered into Greek Tortoise territory, where I just happened to be folding clothes. Waddles, the Greek Tortoise, ran up to Emmy to inspect the intruder. They stopped nose to nose and Emmy started bobbing her head! Just like an Iguana. I separated them, but later on placed them near one another again to see if she'd do it again and she did. She bobbed her head up and down, over and over. She shares her environment with a Burmese Brown and I have never seen either do that before.

Has anyone else seen this from a tortoise? Maybe she's learning from the Igs...

Peace,
Christine

It's a posturing, territorial thing.

This is common behaviour for emys(not emmys the hollywood award for self congradulations for counterculture behaviour in humans)This is how Manouria communicates,he sayin "how bout me and you hookin up and produce a frankenstine tortoise"Then the wild caugh emys will give it a case of tongue herpies.
