Thinking about getting water monitors from Ben Siegel Reptiles

Master_Joel Sep 12, 2004 08:18 PM

Has anyone ordered any water monitors from this place? If so, were they healthy and active? I've recently purchased water monitors from another company, and they died 2 weeks after I got them due to respiratory infections (I was not at fault; the lizards had the correct day and night temps, humidity, food). I would like to be sure that these guys offer healthy animals before I purchase some. Please tell me what you think of them!

I've been to their Sarasota shop a few times, and I have to say they're one of the better I've been in. The animals were all pretty healthy and visibly feeding (on different occasions I saw most of the monitors eat). There has never been that smell of an unkept shop either. Of course I haven't bought a monitor from them (they didn't have red ackies which was what I had been shopping around for). Hope this info helps some what...

I purchased a dwarf tegu from them years ago, but at a show, not through the mail. Other than the fact that they claimed it was cb when it was not, (I've learned a lot since then) it was healthy, active and beautiful.

I have purchased a few snakes from him and all have been WAY better than the pic and the quality was fantastic. Call Ben and tell him your concerns and he'll make sure you are comfortable.

Thanks,

I work literally right next door to Ben's Deerfield shop. I am usually in there at least once or twice a week and his animals are all top notch. I currently have one of his waters from last September that is around 4 feet long now and doing great. I would highly recommend any purchase from Ben. Billy

A guy who bought it from FR, the animal was in great shape but didnt have any heat packs with it for delivery if I remember (sent in the winter). I havent bought anything from him since then, but watch as he has been closely associating with Sal from Boca reptiles/Upstate exotics, or supposedly he is (I hope not for Bens sake). I hope this hasnt changed the quality of Bens animals or business practices as the legal system is catching up to Sal.

The only dealings Ben has with Sal (that I know of) is that Sal buys much of his stock from Ben. Again, I would recommend any purchase from Ben with confidence. Hell, if you have your eye on any particular animal he is advertising, let me know and I will check it out for you. I can say that that baby waters he has in now all looked good, even though they are a little smaller than the ones he usually has.

I didn't buy any monitors but purchased a pair of ornate uros. They were more beautiful than I imagined, healthy, packed well, delivered as promised and a reasonable price.

I live close to ben's place. Infact I'm going there today to pick up feeders. I've never had any problems with any of his animals. He's got everything from high end to low end (I want his lacies! and baby crocs! hell I'll take the sulfur water as well!!!) I'd recommend him. I don't know about his shipping practices as I pick up everything I buy.

I got some chameleons from him at a show last year. They were in great shape and we are incubating their eggs now.
