Rhino Vipers

DanW Jun 26, 2003 02:57 AM

I have heard that Rhinos are sensitive to heat and I've also heard they do better with it. I heard they need humidity sky high and can handle constantly wet conditions and others say its not important. What is the proper way to maintain Rhinos in the area of heat and humidity? Any other info will also be appreciated.

Thanks,
Dan

We keep Rhino vipers for a very long time and have made very good experiences by keeping them dry not humid.
Young ones need to drink allot but the humidity does not seem to need to be high.. in fact high humidity is nod good according to our experiences.
Temperatures should not be too high eighter. Keep the cage at room temperature with a small spotlight in one corner so they can bask if they desire.

In short.. keep them not too warm and relatively dry.
We give ours an overnight soaking in a container with 1/4 inch water every few weeks for them to absorb/drink enough water.. this is good specially before shedding.

I have had no losses at all in the last 2 years on my rhinos and I keep quite a bunch.

What are your experiences when the humidity is too high? What kind of substrate are you using? What is your feeding schedule?

Thanks,
Dan

Hi:

I love your rhinos. Tell me, what is the average size of these? I seem to remember that these are the smallest out of the three bitis (gaboon type)complex (the three being: gaboon, puff daddy, and the rhino).

Am I correct?

cheers.

I believe the snake you are looking for is the puff adder.
