Pac Man Quick Question

grantguy Sep 13, 2004 07:20 AM

Hey, I have some small bugs, really really tiny grey cricket looking things, climbing around on my substrate. Is that ok for my Pac-Man tank? I don't know what the hell they are. Thanks for help.

sorry im not very good at identifiying bugs/mites etc but personally i wouldnt be comfortable with them in there with the frog. what i would do is dump the substrate right away and get fresh stuff, any ornaments/decorations in the tank either need a blast in the oven for a while or soaked in some kinda of disinfectant/weak bleach solution. be carefull with what u use here, i only use a disinfectant that says it is repltile/amphibian safe i think its vet-ark i use or a VERY weak bleach solution. once uve done this u need to thoroughly clean the viv and decorations and really get rid of the solution uve used, a good guide is to smell for the bleach or whatever uve used, if its even barely detecable u havent rinsed it of properly.
do the same with water/food bowls, everything inside the viv and the viv itself basically

set it all back up with the new substrate etc and heopfully u will have rid all of the bugs, if not then u may need to go to vet and get something specifically for the bugs in question , mites for example can be tricky to get rid of without stuff designed to kill them !!

try just cleaning everything 1st and heopfully they will be gone

it could possibly be very small hatchling pinhead crickets, a while back I had the same problem. I thought I had mytes in my tank, but after looking at them very closely it was very small crickets that feeder crickets had deposited in the soil before being eaten, it doesnt take crickets anytime to lay eggs, its almost seems as soon as they touch the substrate they start to lay eggs.
