An Unusual Shed Situation? Would appreciate help....

Roe Sep 13, 2004 07:35 AM

I have a crop of neonate Boas...they were born on August 20 and all have performed their functions like clockwork except for one snake that still has not shed. It's been over three weeks now... I have soaked the animal several times, humidity levels are good, etc...

He's one of the nicer animals in the litter---any thoughts on how to help this guy along?

Thanks-
Jim Lineberger

It is not rare for newborn boas to skip the post-birth shed cycle.. this is especially true if the young were a little premature but there may be other reasons too.

Usually, if the animal is feeding and otherwise doing well there is no reason for worry, as soon as it has enough of whatever it needs it will shed out normally. Be cautious with the over-soaking or heating or whatever steps you might take to try and force it to shed, my advice is to treat it just as you do the others and watch it closely when it does go into shed.
