gopher snake growth

javakitty Sep 13, 2004 08:30 AM

I am wondering, how long should a 2 year old male sonoran gopher snake be? At what age do they stop growing?

It can vary a lot, but it should be at least 32" by a full 2 years. If it's any less than that, it has probably been underfed. I would say that 40" or so would be about average, but it depends on the individual and its genentic background. They will continue to grow as long as they live, but they really slow down once they reach 4 or 5 y.o. Most Sonorans will top out around 55 or 60", although we've had a few that were over 6'.

Oh good, my sonoran is about 34", so he seems to be growing decently. I feed him about once a week, I don't powerfeed because I don't want him to get too big. Thanks for the reply, just the info I was looking for
