Baby Copperhead

discoferret Sep 13, 2004 01:09 PM

Hi, I've just got myself a baby Southern Copperhead. But he is refusing to eat. He is eaten twice since he was born and that was a froglet and an unscented pinkie, this was 2 weeks ago. He looks very healthy and very alert. Has anyone got any advice for me?

Well, my 2 cents would be this, given the little info that you've provided. There could be a few things going on. Could be the cage is too cool, could be there is a lot of commotion that goes on around the snake that's not allowing it to really settle down, or it could just not be ready yet. Take a look at it's body shape.....if it really doesnt look like it's in bad shape, then dont sweat it too much yet. The snake just might know whats good for itself. Give it another week or so before really hitting the panic button. Make sure it's got a hide box (supposedly copperheads like to have a nice secure hiding spot)and water to drink, and just wait it out for a little longer. Keep us all updated in a week or so, and we'll take it from there.

well its been over a week now since I first posted and I still havent had any luck. He still looks healthy and is still very alert. He stricks at the prey but then just leave it. Ive tryed the following.

1. warmed pinkie.
2. scented pinkie with variety of scents.
3. split pinkie head and spread brians over the pinkie.
4. Fed at night/day.
5. im trying to get some froglet's but havent had much luck over here in the uk.

has anyone got any other ideas?
