Kingsnakes Susceptible to Colds & Flus?

Ameron Sep 13, 2004 04:10 PM

I've heard rumors that they are, but those rumors could be entirely false.

Aside from basic hygiene, shall I not handle my Kingsnake when I have a cold or Flu, or are they immune to Humanoid diseases?

What has your experience been? (Expert replies which defend their assertions with logic & reason, and specific examples, especially appreciated.)

I lost an Albino Snow Cali King to what the vet tested as a strep infection. She had stopped eating and started getting lumps along her sides. Since I couldn't get a fecal, the vet took a swab of her vent. Which was tested as strep. I can't say where she caught it though. I keep my enclosures clean, and water fresh. But, I can't recall having strep, or the kids having it prior to it.

A local pet shop lady says that our Colds & Flus are not transmissible to snakes.

It also sounds like the Strep infection was not cross-cultured, but from some other source.

So sorry about your loss.
