Crickets

Are medium size crickets too big for a baby? The pet store gave me mediums even though I asked for smalls and said she/he would eat them. They just seem so huge. I got 50..so she/he will be eating them for awhile but just to know for next time. Thanks

As long as they're not bigger than his head I think it'll be alright. If you think he just wouldn't be able to eat them maybe you can try breeding them, and use the babies to feed your gecko. You could try mealworms.

Well..they are bigger then its head..but it still eats them. He/she won't eat mealworms..already tried. And crickets disgust me..so there's no way I'm breeding them! lol

I hate crickets too. I breed mealworms because it's so much easier and i was at the point where crickets for all my herps was costing me a fortune. If you don't mind mealworms as much as crickets try introducing the mealworms to your gecko slowly until the only thing she has to eat is mealworms. She'll get hungry enough or find out that their not that bad after all and start eating them. I had a leo that wouldn't eat mealworms now that's the only thing she'll eat. Make sure you properly gutload them though. Try this. Also about your gecko and the crix now. If she's eating them without a problem and everything seems to be fine then you should be fine, just try to get smaller ones next time.

Thanks...I'll try that. But I need to get some new mealworms. The ones I just bought have black looking mealworms in it. Weird. I do have a consern(sp?) Just a little while ago I noticed my leos stool was a little different. It looked like my first leos that had crypto (I know this one doesn't have it since he/shes eating) Large and kind of runny...could it have been a bad cricket? He/she still seems normal...I really hope it doesn't have any parasites. Thanks for any input I recieve!

Black mealworms are dead mealworms
unless you have those weird black fast moving mealworms that i having breeding in my beetle bucket right now. Either way black isn't something you should feed the leos.

Large crickets/feeders can make a leo constipated, it happened to mine. She was only pooping once a week when i gave her a bath it took a month of baths to get her back on track.
Like yours mine ate ANYTHING i swear she would eat an insect bigger than her, more and smaller items is better

good luck
