Mouth injury

Neuro Sep 13, 2004 05:29 PM

Hi there, i have 2 B&W argentine tegus, and one of them, 3 years old, is showing this extrange injuries in the border of his mouth, hes not looking sick or anything, also hes eating as always, i've been with the vet but he thinked that the injuries were caused by some kind of flue, already healed, but the injuries dont wear off.

Anyone know what could this be? ill try to upload a pic, if i find the tool in this page, or if someone knows anything about this plz reply and ill send a pic via email.

Thanks a lot

Hello this is pretty much just an idea or a thought on what could be one of many reasons for the injury. Also I have noticed that reptiles heal rather quickly but the physical signs will remain till they are shed off. In deep scratches ore wounds this could take several sheds to dissapear.
Now as for a thought on what could have caused the injury. My tegus have a very aggressive feeding response. Mine have gotten a piece of substrate stuck to the meat and in their attempts to clean it off have scratched themselves on the rough edge of substrate.(that is why I now feed mine out of the pen on a sheet) The scratch was there for a while and looked nasty even though it was healed up. Please do not take my advice over what your vet says if its a herp vet. They know far more than I. I just thought I would toss an idea out there for you.

Yeah thanks, but its not that kind of injury, its in his lips, you know, inside and outside, and they heal but not all the way, they are like the human labial herpes but with a scab over the injury, i was thinking that maybe they are some kind of hormonal thing that means "i need to mate" but i dont have a clue :S

thanks for replying, im still trying to put a picture.

This is worst than i thinked, i was reserching all this day and i found this:

http://www.anapsid.org/stomatitis.html

This is exactly what was happening with my tegu, and the vet give him a treatment for flu, he was in medication for 5 days with antibiotics but the right time were 10 days, poor minos, and hes beefy legs , nails again and now for 10 days.

Im taking him with another vet tomorrow and ill show the stomatitis sheet to him, i know he'll now what to do.

Good luck everyone.
