Toad ID Help

LiamReid Sep 13, 2004 08:15 PM

Hi, on a holiday to Pakistan this summer, in the city of Karachi, i came across these toads in a relative's garden. They were first located in and around a small water filled saucer (the kind often placed under plant pots) on the lawn and soon after around the edge of the garden. Their size may be due to their age - or the species may only naturally grow to that level - i do not know. My relatives mentioned having seen larger "frogs" around the garden recently, but did not know if they were of the same species, or of another. So far I have been unsuccessful in identifying them. Does anybody have any idea what they are? Thanks for your help!

Liam.

Liam,

Your toad appears to be a juvenille. I am not sure of the exact species, but it's definitely a true bufo. I recommend contacting someone at this site and see if they can help.

http://www.wildlifeofpakistan.com/AmphibiansofPakistan/amphibiansofPakistanchecklist.htm

They list all the bufo species, but have no pictures available. I have a bufo melonastictus, but yours does not appear to be the same.

I'd love to know what he is. Very cute!

Lol K you might think im a bit crazy but it looks closest to the Pakistan Bufo Viridis... (similar pattern). Try typeing Pakistan Bufo Viridis in www.google.com under images. Hope this helps.
