Crested Tail Upright

adman76 Sep 13, 2004 09:00 PM

Hi!
I just got two crested geckos. I noticed that the male's tail is either upright (pointing straight up) or if he's hanging face down, the tail is also hanging down (pointing towards his head). Could this be due to the bulge under his tail? It seems like he can't lay his tail straight so he'll just let it hang.
Is this normal especially in males?

Can anyone please help answer my previous question.
Thanks!

I haven't seen anything like that, or not as you described. However, even if it was a result of some injury or other cause like "floppy tail" - what's to be done? Nothing...

So if it were me, I'd just relax and enjoy the gecko.

What's a floppy tail??

Floppy tail is sometimes caused by a lack of calcium early on in life. Or from spending too much time upside down in ones cage. Its a warning sign more than a real problem in my veiw.

The question becomes
1. do you supply calcium for your pet?
2.Does your pet have adequate climbing areas or is hanging upside down on the glass his only option?

if you do supply climbing areas and calcium then your doing all you can .It wont fix the floppy tail now ,but youll know your supplying what he needs. It doesnt hurt or trouble him .

I just got the guy yesterday. So, if I start giving him more clacium and more climbing area, would his tail be fixed? How should I give him the calcium? Should I mix it in the baby food or should I place it on a seperate dish? Thanks!
