Black Tree/Green Tree feeding observation....

RoadSpawn Sep 13, 2004 09:56 PM

Hey All
I've noticed that my 1.1 black trees will use their claws to rip open even very small fuzzies when feeding. My green tree won't. He just kills and swallows them without making a mess like other monitors I've had. Is it just my pair that do this or is it common?

I observe this evisceration of prey with all of my tree monitors... They will even do it to f/t fuzzies and roaches... They sure make a mess with it... I actually got splashed in the face one day from one of my male beccari shredding his fuzzie... kind of gross...

But yes, it has been observed many times before in captivity.... I don't see why they do it, other than, to make sure the animal's dead, or to make the prey smaller to swallow...

cheers,

bob
