im now out at college and she says she misses my snakes and dart frogs, but then again who wouldnt??? She has always drooled over baby geckos so i figure i will get her one for christmas. cresteds are my prefefrence because i have a dart frog enclosure which is now empty but perfect for tropicals. it is a heavily planted 20 long with a false bottom that stays between 74-82 degrees and at 70-85% humidity. It is misted everyday and water gathers in the bromiliad so there is always water available. If the cage is too large for a baby I could always block of a portion until i am sure that it is eating and healthy. I would feed it a modified gecko diet with fruitflies if needed but i would prefer to not have to feed live. thank you all so much for the expert advice and critisism i will surely recieve, nothing is final and i want this pet to thrive under my mother's capable hands so please let loose all suggestions.

Hi,

Did you have frogs in the tank? If you did and have not cleaned the tank is it not a good idea to put a Crested Gecko in a "dirty" tank. The frogs could have had parasites that would affect the Crested (what happened to the frogs that lived in the tank)...I breed arrow frogs and have a Crested...I don't even put frogs from one tank into another without cleaning it.

If you want the Crested to live in that tank please clean the tank first and replace all the substrate and plants...only then would it be safe for a Crested.

thanks for the response. alright so I guess i wont use my old froggy cage, instead I guess I can use a ten gallon with paper substrate and the same temp and humidity range. does that sound better? thanks again

Hi,

Yep, using a new tank or cleaning the old...but not using a used tank is the way to go. It is hard to toss plants and things. Some people don't and reuse things from previously used tanks, but in my opinion you would be taking a risk that should not be taken...just like placing animals in quarantine...not everyone does it but it is something that should be done for the health of the animals. So using a used tank is like not putting a new animal in quarantine.
