Hi Russ
Thanks for the kind words. I made my business card using photoshop and sent the files to a professional printer to be printed on 14 pt. back to back 4/4 full color with UV glossy coating. I will be recieving the cards next week so I'm really excited since this is my first run with this design. As for pointers, since this is a form of advertising, you would want it to stand out and make an impression on the individual you're giving the card to. One way you can do that is by using striking colors and/or having a nice contrast on the colors that you decide to use. Another way is by having a cool name/logo/image that would identify yourslef and/or your business. Don't be generic. Try to remember that you want to give an impression and a plain business card with a small logo, small text, and a generic plain background will just be too boring and will not create an impact it was intended to do. Try to be as original and as creative as possible since you want to create an identity with this piece of paper. Another pointer is make sure that the image you're using is visually appealing. You want your subject to pull someone in and get them somewhat interested. Some artistic skills and knowledge of the software you're using wouldn't hurt either. If you're lacking those factors talk to someone that could help you create one. The specs that you would want to use for a business card file would be a document printed size of 3.5 x 2 inches plus .25 or .125 inches bleed(so you would have a 3.75 x 2.25 or 3.625 x 2.125 printed size document) for the printers to cut it properly, with 400 dpi(atleast 300 dpi). A 3.75 x 2.25 printed size document will have a pixel(dot) dimension of ~1500 x 900 pixels(dots). And make sure you use CMYK color mode for 4/4 full color printing. That's pretty much what I used for my card. Hope it helped.
>>man I wish mine would turn out that nice. Are you making those professionally or at home? Care to share any pointers for others to use when making cards of that high of quality.
