Stunted size to Ball Python?

snakeypete Jun 26, 2003 08:37 AM

Hello all,

My male Ball Python refused to eat for a couple of months last winter. I heard of the infamous records of Ball Pythons not eating for 6 months at a time in the winter etc. so I wasn't too worried.

My concern is now that he is about 1.5 years has he reached his full size?

From head to toe he his a little shy of 3 feet. I know adults range from 2.5 to 6 feet etc.

Is this too small for adult male Ball Python? He is little larger around than a golf ball.

Any info is greatly appreciated.

Thanks.

I am not an expert with loads of growth experience but I would bet he will keep growing and I would not think winter fast would stunt him in any way.
I have a female that I got at about 2yrs old and only2.5 pouns. She fasts for 8 months out of 12. In her first year, eating only 4 months of it, She GAINED an entire pound.
If your husbandry and feeding is correct he will be growing still.

BPs never stop growing. Sure, they grow the most in their first 1-2 years, and that determines how big they'll be overall (I beleive).

My striped female went on a fast not too long after I got her (last Sept). Now she's finally eating on a regular schedule (Well, ever since I put her in with my little male, hmm) and starting to put on some weight.

If you're really concerned, during summer time, feed more often than you would if it'd eat all year long (every 5 days or something) then drop down the food intake during winter. Let it all average out, hehe.
