newly hatched Anoles

Kivey03 Sep 14, 2004 11:02 AM

I've got a newly hatched Anole only days old. It hasn't started eating yet. Is this normal? Also what is pinhead crickets? I've got an adult female Anole and I unknowiingly put a male in with her and within weeks she was carrying eggs. (I've since taken him out!) But anyway I put crickets in with her and they've also had some baby crickets that i've took from her tank and put in with the baby also put in some cut up mealworms and some canned Anole food. (dried flies) but he's not ate anything yet. I don't want him to die. Does he know how to eat? I cut a mealworm and put it up to him with tweezers and he licked a little of the insides out. Is this what I need to do? or just let him start eating own his own? Thanks for any help!! Kelly

Pinhead crickets are teeny baby crickets that have just hatched. I've not had a baby anole, but you can try flightless fruit flies - you can get cultures pretty cheap from many of the online feeder places like Reptilefood.com and American Cricket Ranch.

So I guess all those baby crickets that are hatching in my adult anoles tank are pinheads? I still worry about the baby not eating yet. Is that normal? Thanks, Kelly

I am not an expert, (I am currently having trouble with a female that will not eat) But I have a beautiful baby that I caught in Corpus Christi who is NOT happy unless she is outside. I put her outside during the day in a 10 gallon tank (Never in full sun) with a tight fitting screen lid, and a potted plant inside and a piece of fake plant so she can get up and down off the potted plant. She's thriving. I don't know where you live, but if you live somewhere where its still warm enough you could try that.
