Herp Show Questions

Tyke Sep 14, 2004 12:59 PM

I am thinking about selling my 2 mo. chameleons at a Herp Show. Is it worth your time? What are some good shows around PA that don't have a waiting list? I read somewhere that for one of the shows vendors must be licensed through tyhe Commonwealth of PA Dept of Agriculture to transport or something like that to sell. What is that and is it required at all of the shows or can someone who tried breeding just go and sell? Thanks, Michele

I don't know about Pa laws, but you should have thought about all this BEFORE you chose to breed your veileds.

I originally found wholesalers that would buy them in big lots but I thought that I could find better homes for them if I sold them personally. If you don't have something nice to say then don't reply.

Hey sorry, didn't mean to offend you. It's just that so many people want to be called a breeder without any regards to what they'll do with the babies. And to answer your question about doing the reptile shows, I work the shows in my area & have found that many of the sales are wholesale to petshops coming in to stock up on reptiles at low prices. Then they're resold to anyone who wishes to buy them without any knowledge of how to properly take care of them. I'd like to believe that all my animals end up at wonderful loving homes, but that just doesn't happen. If you have someone willing to buy your entire clutch, then by all means sell them. It'll be the same either way. Only save you the time, trouble & expense of getting a table at the show.

Here's alink to the Pa Wildlife Commission. You can contact them about the laws.

Hope this helps,
