A friend just hatched out two Regal Ringnecks from a female that was collected gravid. The hatchlings are large, about the size of a half-grown Northern Ringneck. Regals eat smaller snakes and lizards in the wild, but usually switch to defrosted pink and fuzzy mice in captivity. Luckily, I had just collected a supply of hatchling lizards to feed some other baby snakes, so I have something to offer this one when it sheds its post-hatching shed.
I take on plenty of "advanced" snakes, like hatchling graybands and baby Mountain Kings, but we'll see if I've nibbled off more than I can chew this time. If I can get the baby Ringneck past a certain size, I can try to get it feeding on pinky mice. I'll try to find time to film it pretty soon. Interesting--the ventral surface is not yellow yet, and heavily speckled.
