BRB ???

Z_G_Reptiles Sep 14, 2004 02:40 PM

when i feed my 9 month old brb after he eats he'll go up the side of the cage a little and starts puffing his throat at me kinda like frogs do and i was woundering if it's just him telling me he wants more or if something's wrong with him? because i've never seen a snake do that?

Does he do this everytime you feed? How long will this happen after fedding? What size meal do you feed? Has he done this since you acqiured him? How long have you had him? What are your temps/humidity levels kept at? Does he blow bubbles out of his nose or mouth when doing this? Is he re-aligning his jaws? Does he ever refuse a meal? How often do you feed him?

Just an example of what information you need to state for a much more specific reply.

i just noticed it this one time, he'll do it for only about a min and stair at me while he's doing it, i feel him a mouse about equivalent as the thickest part of his body every week i've had him since june, in the day the hot side of the cage can reach as high of 89 but the cooler side is 83 i must measured,at night i lower it to where the cooler side of the cage is 75 and the hotter side at 84, no he doesn't blow any bubbles from his nose no he's not realigning his jaw and he has never refused a meal since i've had him

Slacker,
...I think your cage is a little too warm during the day. I use an IR temperature gun to check on my cages and snakes and the BRBs usually stay in the part of their cages that maintains them at body temperature 79 degrees. They find the part of the cage that is at this temperature. Let the snakes have the temperatures that they want. These snakes are not Boa Constrictors which like to be in the mid 80s.
Good luck,
Jeff
