How many crickets/how often

Buddy25 Sep 14, 2004 03:25 PM

Hey all,
I recieved my baby normal the other day, and yesterday he ate 3, or 4 calcium/D3 dusted crickets. I was very happy =)!!! And I was absolutely facinated/adore how my little guy wags his tail when he sees a cricket he wants tehn when jolting to get it his tail REALLY wiggles.

ANYWHO, my question is how often should I feed my little guy, and how many food items?

ALSO, as the calcium dish I just crushed up cuttlebone(calcium carbonate) is this fine? Or should I use the Calcium/D3 supplement instead in the dish?

Thank you very much for your time,
Steven

Congrats on your new addition!! He sounds very happy and content. Usually Leos will only eat when they're hungry so feed him a few, if he eats them feed a few more. Also since he a baby feed him a everyday. As he gets older to a sub-adult, adult you can start feeding him every other day. Also have you tried mealworms?? As they get older and they eat more you will soon get tired of getting crickets. Well most people do. Mealworms are much easier to take care of and breed. Here's a site that tell you how to breed mealworms. It's cheap and pretty easy. Breeding Mealworms
Hope this helps!! Feel free to ask any more questions.

Hey. The cuttle bone thing is a good question. I'm sorry I don't have the answer, but I was also wondering that. Is the calcium in a cuttle bone sufficient as long as the food is dusted with Ca containing D3. Also, if it is do you think they would lick a chunk of it or would it have to be crushed up. As a bird owner I always have cuttle bone around and it would be easy to just put a chunk in the tank with the leos, as long as its okay to use of course!

Thanks,
Emily

I have 5 birds in my home, therefore I as well always have many many cuttlebones.

I'm not sure a gecko would take a chunk out of a cuttlebone as a tutrle or bird would though.

I just crush it, or scrape it with a knife.
