Kingsnake not eating two weeks after shedding skin

arconea Sep 14, 2004 04:20 PM

Hello,
I have an adult common kingsnake. He's been eating very regularly (2-3 mice a week) until recently. He stopped eating prior to his molt, which I expected, but he molted two weeks ago and he's still not eating. He has absolutely no interest in food, but he's not sluggish. He's very active. Anybody know what's going on?

Was he Captive Bred or Wild Caught? What part of the country are you in? Have you changed anything with your husbandry. There could be a number of reasons he stopped eating.

Depending on your location, he could just be getting ready for his winter fast. If he's WC, he may just be conditioned to brumate at an earlier time than most. If you've noticed over the last few weeks, the daylight hours are diminishing by about 2 minutes per day. Snakes have great instincts and know when the seasons change. Good luck. I'm sure you have nothing to worry about.
