Question about brumation for snakeguy88

KristenM Sep 14, 2004 05:01 PM

Hey,

I remember a while back you mentioned how you brumate your budgetts frogs. I was wondering if you could post that information again because I would like to brumate my guy soon.

Specfically I was wondering, how much you feed your animals before brumation? How do you know it is big enough to survive brumation? How long your brumate them for? And what temp you keep them at in brumation?

I would like to brumate is about 2 years now and has never been brumated but now that it is an established adult I would like to give it a try.

Any advice would be great!

Thanx
Kristen

I normally have a small heat source and usually just turn it off. My house was pretty cool. Do NOT feed your frog for about a week and let it get all contents out of its gut so that the food doesn't rot in the frog. Then turn off the heat, let the substrate dry out for the most part, and the frog should secrete the mucous cocoon. After that, make sure the frog is not dessicated every day or two and mist just enough to keep the soil a little damp around it. I would normally just brumate my frogs for 2 wks to a month since their appetite would normally increase afterwards. At the end, just warm the frog back up and mist it heavily. The frogs should be up in a few days.
