your best bet is to watch the kingsnake classifieds under tortoises, maybe 2 or 3 become available every year and they are usualy not little babies. It was easier to get some babies out of arizona and florida a few years ago,but not any more. The arizona ones were being bought in florida and resold for alot more money. You will need a fish and wildlife captive bred permit to purchase one outside of your state and the person selling it to you will need one also. The prices are insane and you can expect to pay at least 2 to 3 thousand for a baby ($2000.00 is cheap!) and 15 to 35 thousand for an older animal depending if it is a breeder or not, but most people, once they get one, will not part with it. I have 2 Galaps and i would not sell them for twice what they are worth.
You can consider am aldabra if you want a huge tortoise. There are always several for sale in the kingsnake classifieds, they are less money than Galaps and don't have the legal hassel.
Thanks for the reply i'll keep watching kingsnake.. i'm curious but i may put it off for a few years
