New snake owner trying to save snake...

thymekiller Sep 14, 2004 07:01 PM

Hi!! My daughter called me early Sunday morning to ask me if I would take charge of a Ball Python that her friends no longer cared about. I agreed, having an unrational love for snakes. When the snake got there, I found out that he had not been fed in 4 months. I have been told that he is 2 years old, but he appears to be a little thin-backbone prominent. When we got him here, we gave him 3 feeder mice, and he ate them all. My question is, how much should I feed him per week to regain his weight?? He had the 3 mice Sunday, and he seems to be alert, and as active as I think a snake will be.should I feed him daily until he looks filled out?? Please help a newbie!!!!

Well, unfortunately, it was too late for him, as I found him dead in his cage tonite. I am so disappointed that I couldnt save him-and outraged that a pet owner would allow this kind of neglect. I understand that his cage hadnt been cleaned since they owned him. Altho I only had him for 2 days, I was really looking forward to being a snake owner, and I am truly heartbroken to have lost him. Great forum-if i ever get a chance at another python, I'll be back.
