Tag on Caiman.

Greetings All,

I got a call from the humane society today as they have my name on their list for exotics, and hots that need to be relocated. If anyone here remembers I have a A. mississippiensis, that I built an extension onto my home strictly to house it. I know about husbandry, ect.

Onto the question. I arrive to view an "Alligator" that is approx. 3.5'. Turns out this is not a gator but rather a C. crocodilus, a very nice well kept animal with minimal attitude (surprise). My question (I know it's novice) is that this animal is tagged.
What are the possible reasons for this? Was it under obersevation by fish and game? Was it a University specimen?
Any help greatly appreciated.

animals like this are usualy tagged before being imported into the USA, a tail tag, toe tag or band around one of their arms or legs.

these tag for the most part quickly come off or are removed.

This is just for identification purpose with USFWS

Thank you Donny, I appreciate it. All I needed was the go-ahead before I bring her home. Just wanted to make sure it was on the up and up. I'll cut the tag off when I get her home. I appreciate it.
