Anyone had a bladder stone removal done on their tortoise?

retrokitty Sep 14, 2004 08:11 PM

Hi,

I'm in the Sacramento, CA area and we need to have a 2"+ bladder stone removed ASAP from our 45 year old male CA desert tortoise (Hercules). Two questions:

Has anyone been through this before and if so, any advice?

Does anyone have any recommendations (from personal experience for a vet who has done this exact surgery in the Sacramento/Foothills/Davis area?

Thanks!

i lost two tortoises to bladder stones in the 1970s so i'm of no help.

but this website has the procedure on video and these vets might be able to help you find the right people to do the surgery.

good luck,

I'd be interested in getting some info from you on what happened with your tortoises when they were suffering from the illness. Did they pass while in hibernation? We're planning on keeping ours (gopher) out of hibernation this year since the stone is fairly large (2" or more).

Any info you can give me about your experience would still be welcome.

Thanks also for the link to the site. I had found that site some time back and as a matter of fact, seeing the operation in photos is what made us decide to go forward rather than putting our little man "to sleep."

Thanks again!
