Does anyone know if the Zoo med repti temp rheostat works with UTH's? Has anyone tried to use this for their UTH?

I've used them for uth and heat lamps. They work, but all they do is increase or decrease the normal output. They don't adjust the temp throughout the day like a thermostat. I'd stromgly suggest the use of a thermostat instead of a reostat espescially with a uth.

I use one for 3 low wattage UTHs. All the rheostat does is adjust the power available to whatever item you are powering. It does not increase anything, just allows you to lower to the level you need. You can use one on anything that uses electricity, though many electronics won't work on the lower power. You probably can't dim your TV or control your stereo volume with it, but with say an alarm clock you can dim the LEDs. Just don't put more power (wattage) into the rheostat than it is rated for.

How exactly does a thermostat work? Do you set it to a temp and it will regulate the temp all day?

There's a probe attached to the thermostat that you place inside the tank over the UTH to get a temperature reading. Then you plug the UTH into the thermostat and it will regulate the UTH according to the temperature you program into the thermostat. With a rheostat, you just plug the UTH in and then adjust the little dial from LOW-MED-HIGH, works like a dimmer.
