ghettozoohouse Sep 14, 2004 08:42 PM

I adopted this adult female leopard from someone who lives near the coast and kept her outside without heat year round. At first I didn't think it was anything but now it seems to have spread.

There's a kind of 'shellrot' that occurs in tortoises if they stay in a cool/damp place for too long. The scutes will divelop this fungus that eats away the top layer of the shell. When the tortoise is move to more favorable conditions the old stuff usually falls off. New keratin (sp?) is secreted by the bone and the tortoise is no worse for the wear.

A vet might give you a topical antibiotic to avoid any chance of infection.
