WARNING to all snake keepers: STICKERS

coiledtostrike Sep 14, 2004 11:44 PM

This is a message to all those who have store-bought hides for their smaller snakes (or even their larger ones). Please make sure that any price stickers or barcode stickers are removed from the hides, water dishes, or branches that you place in your snake's cage.
I just had a scare with my baby rat snake - I heard a strange crinkling noise coming from his tank, flipped on the overhead light, and found him trying to get a large price sticker off his head. The sticker had stuck to the old skin he was about to shed, but it also stuck to the new scales underneath and was pulling on them. I had to use lots of water, a pair of tweezers, and patience to get it off without injuring him. I'm definitely going over every hide and branch in all my snake cages in the morning to make sure this doesn't happen to any of my other babies.
Thanks for reading!

If this ever happens again to your snake try using vegetable oil and just your fingers to gently release the tape's hold. It's safer to let the oil breakdown the tapes adhesive than to just pull the tape off.
