New uro problem?

joshc Sep 15, 2004 12:25 AM

Hey there,

I just purchased a new mali uro and was curious as to how active they are. He seems to sleep or bask most of the time. Is this normal? I've only had him a few days, so I thought it might just be him getting used to the surroundings, but I worry. He has been eating, although he didn't accept the superworm I tried to feed him earlier today. I have the basking area at about 105-110 degrees and the other side of the enclosure at about 80-90 degrees. Should I be worried about this, or is it normal? Thanks in advance.

I agree with the other post, you probably want to raise your basking temps a bit, that will probably raise the ambient temps also, but that is ok! Does the Uro have a hide, preferably on both the warm and cool sides? If he only has on on the cool side he may be choosing "safety" over proper temps. Do you have a full spectrum light on your Uro? This can also increase activity and is necessary for him to create D3 and be able to absorb the calcium from his food.

As for the super worm, I would not worry about that. My Uro is a confirmed herbivore, and has done just fine for the last 7 years. Though I did give him occasional crickets when he was younger. Mostly the crickets just sat on his head and tormented him though. He is not exactly a natural hunter. lol.

I hope that is helpful!
