Well I thought it'd be best to let the last two go, Peachy & Lyle if you recall - wood froglets that I raised from eggs gathered back in April. We're moving next week, & I didn't want to take them 20 miles away where water will be different. I felt bad catching them to transport outside; they'd come to trust my hand entering the tank, & I'd even hand-fed one of them a tiny cricket. I felt by chasing them around & scaring them, I was betraying them...but it's all for the good. They went their 2 separate ways when I released them off the path in the woods, near the creek. Within two hops they were invisible in the debris & undergrowth. I hope no one eats them; I've seen garters stalking wood frogs in the grassy clearing.
I console myself with the fact that there will surely be many interesting creatures to be found on the 10 wooded acres to which we are moving
We're right adjacent to the protected reservoir area, so wildlife is healthy there. Good chance we'll even see bald eagles - they're very successful there!
