Egyptian cage sizes and growth rates

purduecg Sep 15, 2004 11:55 AM

Hello everyone, I am hoping that you guys can help me make a decision I have been struggling with. I will hopefully be receiving a new, juvenile Egyptian, and am in the process of setting its cage up. I had originally planned on building/having built a stackable set of cages that were 2 ft tall, 4 ft long and 2 feet wide, but I am just not sure I can swing the expense at the moment. Can anyone share their experiences or knowledge with me regartding how fast the egyptians grow? I am trying to decide if it would make any sense to buy a smaller cage now, and then get another one in a few years, or if the bigger cage would be needed in 8 months.

Thanks for your help, I really appreciate it!

it is gonna take a long time for it to outgrow that 4L 2w 2d cage most likely 2 years or more, it will take uros like 4 years to become adults, unless u grow him like robyn from pro exotics because his ornates are almost fully grown in like 8-10 months, well i hope i was of any help

Hey-
How big is the juvenile to start with? How old?
They grow pretty fast the first two years providing they are in good shape to start with.
I had a hatchling go from 55 grams & 6" total length to 500+grams & 15.5" the first year. the second year added another 5 inches to that plus about 500 grams.
4X2X4 is a good starting point, but you will need to increase them soon thereafter.
I need to check my weights and lengths of all mine(6) are in excess of 20" at this point.
Good luck
Ed

Gorgeous Egyptian!

Thanks for your thoughts, that will help me decide how to handle the caging issue.
