Paranoid newbie with UV question

cr0cksKink Sep 15, 2004 01:08 PM

I currently keep a red-eyed crocodile skink but am dying to get a python.
I want to make sure that I have everything right before bringing one home. I've found the majority of the info I need (and a lot of it has come from people here) but I have one paranoid question left.
Is it true that pythons do not need a UV fixture? This question is the last piece of my puzzle and I hope someone will be able to set my mind at ease on this topic.
Related to that question would be, if they don't require uv, is that just for balls or pythons as a whole?

Thanks a bunch to anyone who can help me out!

Ball Pythons don't need UV. They are nocturnal and usually stay hidden during the day. I've raised mine from a 15 inch baby to a healthy 37 inch 900 gram snake without a light source. Its now about 1 1/2 year old and is active at night and eats well when it wants to. Having said that, there are many people that use UV lights as a basking spot and to raise ambient air temps. But it also dries out the air and that might cause low humidity problems. I use UTH sources exclusively without any problems.
