Another new baby

Kivey03 Sep 15, 2004 02:20 PM

I had another new baby Anole hatch this morning. I still don't know if the first hatchling (maybe a week old) is eating. He doesn't seem to be sick so I guess he's eating. I've got some live pinheads in the tank that he must be eating cause he's not eating the cut up mealworms. Another question I have is how do you tell if you have a brown or green Anole? My female and the 2 babies are green sometimes and brown sometimes. Also how long before I need to seperate the two babies if they are 2 males or male and female? (dont want more babies!) I can't tel the sex yet. Thanks for all of your help so far!!! Kelly

I'm so relieved that I saw my baby Anole eating a pinhead today. I thought they weren't eating. I guess I worry to much. The one that was born today was born alot earliar that I expected. I didn't think he'd hatch till the end of the month but he's here now! He's alot smaller than the first one. Could he be premature? He seems to be doing fine. He's a pale green most of the time. Does that mean it's a green anole? I had asked the question before about how do you tell if it's a green or brown because mine are green sometimes and brown sometimes. Thanks, Kelly

I have 2 babies hatched in July from a friend and wasn't sure if they were eating either. I never saw them eat. But if you look for little white turds (for the lack of better description) they are eating. One of my babies is like 3 plus inches but the other is smaller and the end of her tail is missing. The longer one is the dominate one. I've read the can start to mate at like 6 months old.

Brown anoles do not turn green. Green Anoles turn from bright green (sometimes almost emerald) to dark brown, based on mood, temperature, and time of day, and posibly other factors. There are many theories on the color changes on green anoles. Heres mine:

When my green anole is asleep, she is usually green.
When she was basking under a 40 watt, (mistake) she was always brown.
When she baskes under a 60 watt, she's green.
when she's outside, she's green.
When she in my hand, she's green.

So I've come to the conclusion that she's green when she's warm 'enough' for her liking. Not nessesarilly only when she's warm, otherwise she wouldn't be green when the light goes off and the cage cools down.

(If anybody disagrees, I would always like new information about color changes.)

Thanks for that info. All 3 of mine turn colors so I guess that means they are all green Anoles! Do brown and green anoles mate? And what about seperating them. At what age do they start to fight if they are both males? Thanks, Kelly

Green and Browns sholdn't breed... I don't know. They are different species, but that doesn't stop some animals. I wouldn't try, If they did breed, it probably wouldn't be a "good" thing.
